Steve Goldstein

Steve Goldstein is Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at the University of Minnesota Foundation, where he assists President Bruininks in developing financing strategies to support the University's goal to become one of the top three pulic research universities in the world. His activities include Intellectual Property Commercialization, Real Estate Development, and cultivating Private Giving.

Prior to joining the University, Steve was a venture investor since 1997. He was first affiliated with St. Paul Venture Capital before launching Quatris Fund in 2000 as an early stage satellite of St. Paul, with partners Erwin Kelen, John Rollwagen, and Gary Smaby. Steve was initially drawn to the challenges presented by the convergence of the Internet and traditional media. Since then, he has applied his marketing and strategic knowledge o a variety of new ventures.

From 1992 to 1997, Steve was the co-founder, president and CEO of Colfax Communications. Under his leadership, Colfax acquired and operated 17 major market radio stations, becoming the twenty-second largest radio group in the US. The company was sold to Chancellor Broadcasting (now part of Clear Channel) for $400 million.

Before Colfax, Steve was vice president and general manager of WCCO Radio in Minneapolis. Then one of the highest rated radio stations in America, WCCO was purchased by CBS in 1992. Prior to his broadcasting career, Steve spent 13 years at Twin Cities-based Carmichael-Lynch Advertising, where he held numerous positions including senior vice president, management supervisor.

Steve is the founding chairman of Internet Broadcasting, a dominent national network of television Web sites with partners Hearst Argyle, Washington Post Newsweek, McGraw Hill and NBC. He currently serves as a trustee of the Bush Foundation, and a director of the Greater Twin Cities United Way and the University Enterprise Laboratory.

Steve earned a BA and completed his post-graduate work at the University of Minnesota.
